World Boxing Council flyweight champion Julio Cesar ‘Rey’ Martinez is training to return to the ring asap, in order to stay on course for two or three more fights this year.
Trained by Mauricio Aceves and guided by Eddy Reynoso, the “King” has earned a place in the Mexican public’s preference for his all action boxing style and heavy hitting.
Aceves commented that they are likely to have a chance to fight in July, so they began to speed up the pace in training in Mexico City, “They told us to be ready for July, we don’t know an opponent or where, but our intention is to fight in July and September. There could be a big fight on the card where Canelo is participating,” he told ESPN Deportes.
“We have no opponents for July, but they already know that Martinez has no problem with whoever's in front of us. He will be ready when they tell him. He's already more than ready to return to the ring.”
Martinez captured the title last December against Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales and made his first successful defense against Jay Harris in February.
The 112lbs world ruler aims to unify the Flyweight division before moving to Super-Flyweight for blockbuster bouts against the likes of Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, as the Ring Magazine trainer of the year maps out Martinez’s path on this weekend’s episode of ‘Peleamundo’.
