June 21 offered plenty of action over the years

There were plenty of MTK Global stars in action on this day over the years, and you can find out about everything that went down in the ‘On This Day’ series.

In 2019, a huge #MTKFightNight event was held at the Ulster Hall in Belfast and saw Steven Ward and Liam Conroy put on a Fight of the Year contender.

The two men battled it out for the vacant WBO European light-heavyweight title, and after a sensational back and forth battle that included knockdowns, cuts and more, Ward was awarded the victory by eighth-round technical decision.

It saw Ward extend his unbeaten record to 12-0, while Conroy moved to 18 wins, four defeats and one draw, in a superb clash that will be remembered for many years.

Elsewhere on the show, Tyrone McKenna won the vacant WBC International super-lightweight title by defeating Darragh Foley by unanimous decision, plus there were also wins for Paddy Gallagher and Lewis Crocker, who defeated Liam Wells and Karim Aliliche respectively.

An event was being held that night at York Hall in London too, as Kieron Conway challenged Ted Cheeseman for the British super-welterweight title.

Conway put in a fantastic effort, and after 12 hard-fought rounds, the judges were unable to split the two men, with the fight ending in a draw.

In 2016, Ohara Davies was in action at York Hall in London, forcing Zoltan Szabo into a fourth-round retirement to extend his unbeaten record to 12-0.

In 2014, Martin Murray fought at the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco, beating Maksym Bursak by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC Silver middleweight title, and take his professional record to 28 wins, one defeat and one draw in the process.

Hekkie Budler was on the show too, earning an eighth-round knockout win against Wicha Phulaikhao to retain his WBA and IBO world minimumweight titles.
