June 14 offered thrilling encounters over the years

There were plenty of stories involving MTK Global stars on June 14 over the years, and you can find out about everything that went down in the ‘On This Day’ series.

In 2008, an event was held at York Hall in London and featured Liam Walsh making it 2-0 in his professional career by stopping Johnny Greaves in the fourth round.

His brother Ryan Walsh was on the show too, defeating Gheorghe Ghiompricica on points after four rounds to extend his unbeaten record to 3-0.

In 2014, the Holiday Inn in Belfast played host to a show, as Alfredo Meli made it 8-0 in the paid ranks thanks to a four-round points win against Damian Taggart.

Declan Geraghty went to 2-0 as a professional after stopping Renato Toth in the first round, and Sean Turner had a successful professional debut by stopping Zoltan Elekes in round one.

Heading much further back in time, in 1934, American heavyweight Max Baer KO'd defending world champion Primo Carnera of Italy in the 11th round at Madison Square Garden.

It was also tha same day in history that tragedy struck when record-breaking American boxer and bobsledder, Eddie Eagan, died of heart attack aged 69. He won an Olympic gold in 1920 in boxing, followed by another Olympic gold in 1932 for bobsledding!
