Venezuelan Michell 'El Arsenal' Banquez (19-1) put on a dominant display against an underwhelming Prince Patel (19-1-1) to claim the vacant IBO world bantamweight title.
British boxer Patel was highly confident going into the fight, having become Britain’s most active boxer over the past 18 months.
However, as he stepped up to contest for his first major title in his 20th professional fight, he failed to live up to expectations, and especially failed to live up to his own hype that he has built during his career.
Banquez was the more experienced at world level and it was evident in his performance. The 29-year-old South American fought the perfect fight to continuously rack up the rounds as Patel struggled to get his shots off as at all.
In the end, the Venezuelan took the strap 119-109 twice and 118-110 as Patel dropped a first career defeat.
Heavyweight Hughie Fury won in a farcical fight with former two-time WBC title holder Samuel Peter, in a fight littered with fouls. The third man in the ring called a halt when Peter injured his shoulder midway through the contest.
Headliner Amir Khan stopped Billy Dib in four, in a very one-sided affair.
